Occasionally, when a customer has a very large historical tree or a valuable tree we are asked to install something to protect the tree from electric shock (lightening).
A lightening protection system is also recommended when cabling and bracing (particularly a static system) is installed in a tree. This is due to that fact that a large amount of metal is installed into the tree canopy making the tree much more likely to be struck by lightening. A lightening protection system will redirect the electricity to a ground point away from the tree. This will stop the lightening from damaging the tree.
